May Film Program

May Film Program May 29–31, 2009

-İstanbul Modern Cinema presents a selection from 60’s black & white Turkish cinema. In collaboration with Mimar Sinan Cinema-TV Centre, the program focuses on the social realist films of a particular era: The stories will take the audience to a nostalgic journey through old times and space, where to witness a proud İstanbul, miserable peasants, and to listen to oldies-goodies and find an odd comfort that can be only found in those Turkish films.

The program titled “Good Day, Turkey!” will also be welcoming directors and actors as guests such as Halit Refiğ, Duygu Sağıroğlu, Selma Güneri, Göksel Arsoy, Ertem Göreç, Nilüfer Aydan.

FIRST PERSON FILMS

İstanbul Modern Cinema, in collaboration with docİstanbul, presents the ever First Person Film symposium and screening series in Turkey. There will be several screenings alongside a symposium showcasing recent first person films and discussions between filmmakers and theorists as to the meaning and implications of this type of subjective, personal, documentary voice.

The symposium will highlight a range of first person documentary filmmakers: Andrés Di Tella from Argentina with his two films: “Television and Me” (2002) and “Fotografias” (2007); Lebanese artist, curator and critic Rasha Salti, the Palestinian director Kamal Aljafari with his film “The Roof” (2006), Berke Baş with the premier of her “Hush”, alongside a roundtable discussion hosted by directors and scholars such as Berke Baş, Can Candan and Eylem Kaftan…

The event will be held in English.
