Discover Manga!

Within the scope of the "Japan Year 2010 in Turkey" İstanbul Modern presented the exhibition "Discover Manga!: The World of SHONENJUMP" showing different facets of Japanese culture and examples from the art of manga.

Published both for children and adults, mangas draw the reader into the world of action, adventure, comedy, drama, fantasy, love, and science fiction. Organized with the support of Shueisha Inc., one of Japan’s major publishers, the exhibition extensively introduced the art of Japanese comics, manga, which has become a part of everyday life in the country and is a significant cultural phenomenon spreading throughout the world. The exhibition “Discover Manga!: the World of SHONENJUMP” presented the stages of creating a manga and its journey from the first drafts to publication through original sketches, documentaries, drawings, and installations.

On the 120th anniversary of relations between Turkey and Japan İstanbul Modern continued its pop-up exhibitions with the introduction of an exhibition dedicated to Japanese manga, which has millions of fans throughout the world. We would like to thank the Consulate-General of Japan in İstanbul which was unsparing in its support toward making this exhibition possible.
